How Much Does It Cost to Repair or Replace a Windscreen?
Here is a rough guide to what we charge, so you have a fair idea before you ring. Only the stone chip repair is a set price. Every windscreen is priced for the car it goes on, so take those figures as a guide and not a price list.
Windscreen stone chip repair
£75 flat rate per chip
Every stone chip repair is £75 per chip, on a car or a van, and not a penny more, as long as the chip can be repaired. That usually means a chip smaller than a 5p coin. The whole point of a repair is to preserve the integrity of the screen, not to make it brand new. Certain blemishes might still be visible after the repair. If you have two chips on the same windscreen, we will not charge you £75 twice, because we are already there doing the job. Ring us and we will agree a price for both.

£250 to £1,000+ a rough guide, supplied and fitted
A new windscreen for a car or a van, supplied and fitted, costs anywhere from £250 to over £1,000. It all depends on the car and the features on the glass. A plain windscreen on an everyday car is at the lower end. Cars like a Range Rover or a Porsche are priced the same way, and some of them can easily go over £1,000.

£3,000+ a rough guide, not a set price
This is for cars like a Ferrari, a Lamborghini or a Rolls Royce, where the windscreen only comes from the main dealer and not from our usual suppliers. We have to check first whether the glass is available. The price depends on the make and model, and on whether the glass has to be ordered from abroad.

Two things decide it: the make and model of your car and the features on the glass. A windscreen for an E Class Mercedes does not cost the same as one for a Ford Fiesta, and a Range Rover with heating and a head up display costs more than the same Range Rover without them.
- Make and model. Every car takes its own windscreen, and some cost more than others.
- Rain sensor. Cars with automatic wipers need a windscreen made to accommodate the sensor.
- Heating elements. A windscreen that clears its own frost costs more than a plain one.
- Solar tint. Glass made to keep the heat of the sun out of the car costs more than clear glass.
- Head up display (HUD). If your speed shows on the glass in front of you, the windscreen has to be the type made for it.

Repair or replace?
Can Your Windscreen Be Repaired?
A quick stone chip repair costs far less than a new screen, so it is worth checking before you book. The MOT guideline splits the windscreen into two zones:
- Zone A is a 290 mm wide strip centred on the steering wheel. Damage bigger than 10 mm here fails the MOT.
- Zone B is the rest of the area the wipers clear. Damage over 40 mm here fails.
- Chips smaller than a 5p coin can usually be repaired, and so can chips up to 10 mm in zone A, though a faint mark may stay in your view. Long cracks and damage near the edge normally mean a new screen.

Windscreen Questions, Answered
How long does a windscreen replacement take?
Most windscreens take around an hour to fit. Once the screen is in, we will tell you when the adhesive has set enough for you to drive away.
Do you charge a callout fee?
No. We come to your home, your work or wherever the car is parked at no extra cost. The price we quote is the price you pay.
Can my chip be repaired instead of replaced?
Often, yes. Chips smaller than a 5p coin can usually be repaired, so the windscreen never has to come out. Right in front of the driver, chips up to 10 mm can be repaired too, though a faint mark may stay in your view.
Is a cracked windscreen an MOT fail?
It can be. Damage over 10 mm in the driver's central view, or over 40 mm anywhere else in the area the wipers clear, fails the MOT. Driving with damage that blocks your view can also lead to a fine and points on your licence.
